Richard White achieved a podium placing at Jardy CDI last weekend (13–15 June 2025), where searing temperatures and a vibrant atmosphere set the backdrop for three days of international dressage hosted by Haras de Jardy in France.

Riding his own and Lynda Cameron’s 13-year-old Lusitano gelding Heroi Do Seixo, Richard White got off to a strong start in France with a fourth place in Friday’s Grand Prix on 67.500%, close behind the Netherlands’ Tosca Visser and Jackson, who posted 68.130%. The 63-year-old from West Sussex then returned to the arena on Saturday afternoon for the Grand Prix Freestyle, where he scored an excellent 71.035% to take third behind Germany’s Leonie Krull in second on 72.135% and France’s Anne Sophie Serre, who won the class with 72.850%.

Following a rain-drenched outing at Wellington CDI earlier this month, the heat at Jardy provided a stark contrast. “It was very, very hot there. After Wellington, it was a bit of a shock,” Richard commented, “but he [Heroi] was very fresh the first day, even if it was 32 degrees, and unfortunately during the Grand Prix they had very loud background music, so he got a bit excited and we had some expensive mistakes.”

With a more settled atmosphere for the Freestyle, the pair delivered a confident and expressive test to their classical music compilation. “In the Freestyle, I was very happy with him,” said Richard. “Even if we got in a muddle in the two-times on a curved line, I was pleased with the rest of it and thought the test was one of the best we’ve ever done – definitely the best piaffe and passage we’ve ever done in the arena, and a lot of other nice things too.”

Reflecting on their progress and partnership, he continued, “we still get some expensive mistakes, but otherwise I would say we’re getting a lot more secure in everything. The last two shows, I’ve been really happy with how enthusiastic he’s been in the arena and it’s a much more positive feel, which is what I want. At the beginning of the season, he was a little shy in the arena, but he seems to have come out of that and there’s a lot more confidence in the tests.”

With Jardy now behind them, the duo is next bound for Hartpury CDI in July. “He’s feeling very well and is very fit and ready to go, so he’ll have a few days off now, a week where he’s not doing much, and then start preparing for Hartpury,” said Richard.
