Devon's beautiful Bicton Arena played host to the penultimate BD Summer Regional Championship, with the South & West region produced high standard fields and some top quality competition (30 July – 1 August 2025).

Sara-Jane Lanning (pictured above) achieved a duo of wins at Bicton’s fixture, with a new dancing partner and an old friend. In the BETTALIFE Novice, Sara-Jane teamed up with new ride Silver’s Cassandro to take a convincing win with 73.710%; the eye-catching grey is by Sir Donnerhall and out of a Cassuci mare, bred in the Netherlands by Stal Arends. Formerly owned by Lara Edwards and campaigned by Gloucestershire-based professional Lucinda Elliot, the six-year-old looks a truly exciting addition to Sara-Jane's stable.

At 18-years-old, Choice 1 knows his job and showed this will skill in the Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I Gold class, as Sara-Jane piloted her bay gelding to first place on 70.490%. The pair have enjoyed much success in their three year partnership, and qualify for their second LeMieux National Championships.

Bryony Goodwin enjoyed glittering form at the 2024 LeMieux National Championships and will hope to continue her good form with this year’s qualified rides. With BB Florence (Franklin x Sunny Boy), Bryony earned the purple sash in the HorseQuest Elementary Gold, topping the class judged by Tim Downes, Sue McMahon and Francis Goodhind on 73.434%.

The Diamant de Semilly-sired mare Acqua Marina Della Caccia  repeated her Winter Regional winning form at Bicton, with owner rider Joe Roome riding to the top spot in the TopSpec Medium Silver. Their winning score was 69.398%, placing them ahead of Lauren Aston, who enjoyed two second placings at the show, and Beth Miller. Joe’s presented his eight-year-old for five straight wins at Medium level throughout July, an impressive achievement including the Regionals.

Hannah Biggs enjoyed a Nationals ticket title on board Dutch Habour H (Destano x Stedinger), earning 70.741% to win the Bret Willson International Advanced Medium Gold class. The chestnut gelding has been produced through the levels sympathetically by Hannah, progressing from Elementary to Prix St Georges level, having completed their first tailcoat tests together earlier in the summer.

In the Bret Willson Silver section, South & West rider Olivia Luscombe made a winning performance with her own Eternal Kiss. The pair have enjoyed a month to remember so far in August, turning up to Bicton fresh from success at the Youth Home Nations, where they won the Junior FEI Individual title.

Congratulations to all riders who earned tickets to the LeMieux National Championships, as well as everyone who took part. Thanks go to the team at Bicton Arena for a wonderful, well-organised week of Regional Championship competition.
