Sheepgate Equestrian in Lincolnshire hosted the first of the 2025 Summer Regional Championships, presenting riders from Prelim Silver onwards the chance to earn hot tickets to the LeMieux National Championships.
A busy week paid dividends for Northamptonshire-based duo Antonia Brown and Imogen Swann, who brought a team of horses to Sheepgate Equestrian and earned great success between them. In The Centre Line Prelim Gold Antonia claimed the highest score of the show on board Sara Lucas’ SJL Poseidon, earning a super 75%; whilst Imogen completed a one-two for the team with SJL Zebedee scoring 74.270%.
Imogen went on to win a sash of her own in the BETTALIFE Novice Silver, taking the top spot on 74.090% with Antonia’s eye-catching chestnut gelding Podrick van den Overwinning.
Antonia and Imogen earned further placings in no less than three classes, taking a total of four direct qualification tickets to the LeMieux National Championships.
“We always enjoy the Regionals at Sheepgate EC. The relaxed but well organised atmosphere gives both the horses and riders the chance to perform calmly and to enjoy the experience,” Antonia said reflecting on the experience. “We felt that our horses were going well at home - but it was really rewarding to be able to present them to the judges and get the marks we had hoped to receive. With the amazing support of our owners, Sara Lucas and Amandine Didouane, and fantastic Trainer Dan Greenwood, we were absolutely delighted to produce some good results for them.”
“Imogen absolutely epitomises the saying that ‘hard work makes you lucky!’ - it is no fluke that she received the results she achieved.”
In the Small Tour classes Nikki Barker was a double winner with Iwan – marking further success for owner Sara Lucas. The tall bay gelding by Charmeur produced 71.520% in the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges Gold, and 70.640% in the Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I Gold.
Paralympic medallist Sophie Wells was in action in the BETTALIFE Novice Gold and topped a competitive fixture with 70.650%, with Alastair Ewart Gibbs’ Magnifique CL. Their winning score in front of Steph Cooper, Alice Elliott and Cherry Elvin was a fantastic 70.650%. Sophie’s win is testament to her horsemanship, having taken her time to give the talented mare confidence in her power; commented on Facebook she said, “Couldn’t be happier for her owners, Alastair Gibbs and Rachael Grundy who have been so patient with the time it’s taken to get to this point. It’s only her fifth show because I wanted to take my time and do it right, and so proud of my team to have also had the patience and persistence to keep going when it would have been quite easy to not. Every time out she has been the ultimate professional, fingers crossed she keeps that up!”
Ashlene Baghshaw stood out in the Silver sections, winning The Centre Line Prelim class with 69.730% with Alan Drane’s Damali III. Whilst Sheepgate’s own Sarah Payne and Woodlander Wild Romance also earned a Silver sash, taking the top step of the podium in the Bret Willson International Advanced Medium class with 69.210%.
Congratulations to all riders who earned tickets to the LeMieux National Championships, as well as everyone who took part. Thanks go to the team at Sheepgate for a fantastic first Regional Championships, starting the summer title season.
