A strong British contingent of para dressage riders took to Wellington CPEDI in Hampshire for some top-quality autumn action, with seasoned pairs and newcomers putting some great scores on the board across three days of competition.

Four riders earned hat-tricks across the five CPEDI3* grades, with Britain’s team medallists out in force ahead of a winter of training and preparation for the new competition season.
Fresh from medal success at her first FEI European Championships, Nicola Naylor (pictured above) brought her rising star Moulin Rouge (Ferdinand x Dorado) to Wellington and earned the highest score of the show, as well as three Grade IV wins. The eight-year-old mare has come of age this season and completed the show with three scores over 73%, including an impressive total of 79.450% in the Grand Prix Freestyle.
Lee Pearson and his former Paralympic team horse Breezer also produced three wins from three starts in the Grade II contest. Their week began with a superb 74.958% in the Grand Prix A, before concluding with 77.656% in the Freestyle.
Erin Orford and her new ride LJT Nutbush continue to make great progress as a partnership; the Grade III combination earned three wins in convincing fashion. Erin took to Facebook to reflect on her first international since 2024: “A great week at Wellington Riding School for our first International! Exactly 12 months from my last International and I really enjoyed being back in the arena. Gus was a delight all week and I thoroughly enjoyed being back on the International stage with him as my dancing partner. We had wins on all three days with scores of over 72%, 70% and 76% in our first ever music freestyle! We were also selected for the team which is always a privilege. I'm still trying new things and discovering how best to present this beautiful boy but every outing is a learning experience (for me!) and he gives me so much confidence stepping into the arena. He puts a smile on everyone's face and I just want to do him justice.
“Huge thanks go to his owners, Carl Hester, the Lady Joseph Trust, Henrietta Cheetham, Rowena Luard and Anne Barrott for giving me this opportunity. To Sophie Wells for all her training and support, and mum and dad for coming and supporting/grooming.”
BD Wales Grade I rider Elan Williams also enjoyed a great show with her two rides, taking home three wins and some great scores with her faithful partner Brandini. “As bittersweet as it is, this competition was my final ride with the legend Otto. Day one was pure magic, scoring a personal best of 69% in the team test,” Elan reflected on Facebook, “our last dance together, riding to our Equidance freestyle, was everything I hoped for! We scored 71% and felt like we were on cloud nine—he totally knew it was our big moment! And guess what? We even snagged our first international win together, pulling a hat trick...even if I was the only one in the class!”
Grade V rider Alice Begg snagged a victory in the Grand Prix A with her lovely mare Kiolita, earning a top mark of 69.145%. Brazil's Rodolpho Riskalla would claim the Freestyle and Grand Prix B, whilst Alice continued to produce two strong tests for a brace of second place rosettes.

In the 2* competition, Lee Pearson debuted new ride Edith van de Helle, a Holstein bred mare by Lissaro and out of a Contendro I dam. The pair earned a secure score of 67.807% in the Intermediate A test to start the week before going on to earn the high points in the Intermediate B (72.727%) and Freestyle (74.967%).
Alisha Robbins continued her good 2025 form with Grade I victories, having secured a win at the Equissage Pulse Para Bronze & Silver Championships earlier in the summer. With the Irish-bred Framsham Fella, Alisha rode to 66.042% and 69.083%.
Grade IV rider Sara Louise Bates and Solo Hit 2 earned a hat-trick and a Freestyle high score of 71.667%; the pair recently achieved strong scores in Elementary and Medium classes in preparation for their international outing.
In the Grade III classes with was Alexandra Stewart to take the top step of the podium with her dancing partner Beau. Whilst Flossie England and Sankro aced their two Grade V tests to earn two international wins.

Competing at her second ever international, Lacey O’Hara was start of the show in the 1* competition with her 18-year-old British-bred pony Blue Diamond. Their pair put their training with Sophie Wells to good use and produced three lovely tests.
In the Grade V competiton, Hattie Spurling and Top Biats were another duo to continue building on form from the summer, earning three wins with some super promising scores, including 73.850% in the Novice Freestyle. Hattie and Top Biats were crowned Silver Grade V Champions at the Equissage Pulse Para Championships held at Hartpury in August.
Congratulations to all combinations who took part in three brilliant days of competition, and our grateful thanks go to Wellingt Riding for hosting a key fixture as we head towards the winter.
