The first Winter Regional of the year saw a host of competitive Gold and Silver riders put on a great show at Onley Grounds in Warwickshire (21 – 25 January 2026) as the first batch of NAF Five Star Winter Championship tickets found their way to worthy winners.

Doubles on the day were the theme at Onley as no fewer than six combinations secured two titles, and two tickets to the NAF Five Star Winter Championships.

Team Dannie Morgan were in storming form, led by Dannie himself who brought home four titles, continuing an impressive winter regional record. On board Elizabeth Frampton-Hobbs' Empathic (Escamillo x Wolkentanz), Dannie rode to 74.834% in the SPILLERS Medium Freestyle Gold class, whilst also securing the HorseLight Medium Gold title with 70.787%.  The next day it was Fürst Lady III’s time to shine, showing her class for 76.090% in the PDS Saddles Elementary Freestyle Gold followed up with 73.889% and a win in the Equi-Trek Elementary Gold.

Lauren Burrows, who grooms and rides for Dannie, showed her own High Hoes Esquisse for success at Elementary level, winning the Equi-Trek Silver class with 72.071% and the PDS Saddles Freestyle Silver title with an enormous 78.462%. Lauren and High Hoes Eqsuisse are already building an impressive championship record with two summer National titles to their name at Novice and Prelim level.

Lynn Wickes and Furstino were another combination to stand out at Onley, earning another duo of titles at Medium level with scores of 69.352% and 72.222%. Hampshire-based Lynn trains with Dannie Morgan and is also a BD judge.

Continuing the good form for the Hampshire flock, Alice Oppenheimer enjoyed a superb show with her home-bred rides, returning to the top step of the podium after a Winter Regional hiatus. Headmore So Sapphire (So Unique x Belissimo M) secured the Prestige Novice Gold by three percent, on a final score of 73.495%; whilst half-sister Headmore Forever Ruby also won the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Freestyle Gold by the same margin, with an impressive 77.408%. Speaking about the show on social media, Alice commented: “It was a really special day for me as these two wonderful girls are the first two offspring from my heart horse Bella (Headmore Bella Ruby). For them both to bring home a regional title at my first Winter Regional back for three years is quite emotional for me. Bella babies rock!”

Two riders dominated the Small Tour classes, both supported by title sponsors NAF. Oxfordshire-based Holly Bates secured the Silver titles at Prix St Georges and Intermediate I with Hillgrounds Feinline (Feinrich x Sorento); whilst Bryony Goodwin and the British-bred mare Sheepcote Just Daisy stepped up in level to win the Magic title, whilst Antonia Brown's Krack DE claimed the Superflex title on 71.863%, placing just ahead of his stable mate.

Area Festival graduates were to be seen in flying form across the classes, stepping up to Regional competition with much reward. Martha Eldred and the eye-catching grey Pompidou were Petplan Summer Prelim Freestyle Bronze Champions in 2025 and secured the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Freestyle Silver spoils at Onley with a score of 71.852%.

Congratulations to all competitors who took part and those successful in securing their spot at the NAF Five Star Winter Championships in April. Thanks go to the team at Onley Grounds for hosting a great Winter Regional event.
