Learn more about parasite control and horse health with the latest addition to the BD Learning Hub, with a brand-new module on worming created in partnership with Westgate Labs.

As we look ahead to spring and horses begin to enjoy more time in the paddock, it’s the ideal opportunity to refresh and develop your knowledge of effective worming. We are pleased to announce the launch of a new addition to the Learning Hub, a course dedicated to best practice in worming and parasite management. The course has been written by Claire Shand, Director of Marketing & Communications at Westgate Labs, bringing her expert insight and practical experience.

This course offers clear, practical guidance to help horse owners and yard managers make informed decisions to support the health and wellbeing of their horses this spring and beyond.

The ‘Worming Wisely’ course is structured into five informative sessions:

  • Why Parasite Control Matters
Understand what internal parasites are, how they affect equine health, and why increasing resistance has changed the way we approach worming.
  • Assessing the Risk
Learn to identify the factors that influence parasite risk for individual horses and yards.
  • Test, Don’t Guess
Discover how worm egg counts and testing can be used to target treatment only where it is needed.
  • Management That Makes a Difference
Explore practical, everyday management strategies that reduce parasite challenge and support horse health.
  • Test your learning
Complete a short quiz to consolidate your learning.

The course will be available free of charge to paid BD members for the first six weeks, with the aim of helping as many members as possible to access up to date guidance at a time when horses are at grass more and parasite risk can rise. Following the initial six-week period, the course will be available for £15, providing one year’s access. Paying BD members will continue to benefit from an exclusive 20% discount.
