British Dressage is delighted to recognise Youth Employment Week (6 – 10 July 2026), highlighting the importance of supporting young people as they begin their careers and creating opportunities that help them thrive in the workplace.

In partnership with Sport Structures (England), Scottish Racing Academy (Scotland) and Coleg Cambria (Wales), British Dressage offers a range of apprenticeships to suit all individuals working within the equine industry. Whether you are looking to develop new skills or expand on existing knowledge, we aim to support those in gaining a nationally recognised qualification either in your current place of work or within a new role. Apprenticeships build skills and confidence, whilst providing young people with industry experience to aid career progression.

This week the spotlight is on Youth Employment Week, with the aim of connecting young people to opportunities and raising awareness to the benefits of hiring young people.

Grace Perks has recently completed her Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship through Sport Structures, where she passed with a distinction, and is returning to complete her Level 3.

"I chose a British Dressage apprenticeship because I wanted to develop my practical skills while learning from experienced professionals in a competition environment. I was also lucky enough to meet Kirsty Mepham, who has been incredibly supportive throughout my apprenticeship journey. The apprenticeship allows me to combine my passion for horses with recognised qualifications while gaining valuable industry experience." Grace commented.

Looking to the future, Grace told us "My goal is to continue developing my knowledge and experience within the dressage industry while improving my own riding. Thanks to Kirsty I have competed in my first Young Riders competitions this year, I therefore would like to continue developing my skills at this level and higher to support bringing on the younger horses, continue learning from experienced trainers, and build a successful career working with competition horses."
