Preview: KBIS Young Horse Semi Finals and Young Pony Finals at Hartpury

As part of the NAF International Festival of Dressage at Hartpury, the KBIS Young Dressage Horse Semi-Finals and Young Dressage Pony Finals will be taking place over the weekend (4 – 5 July).
On the final push towards the LeMieux National Championships in September, the first of the semi-finals for the KBIS Young Dressage Horse Championships will be running over the weekend. Alongside these semi-finals, the KBIS Young Pony final will be crowning the 2026 champions across the age classes, with the spotlight firmly on this group of young and upcoming horses and ponies.
In the Four-Year Old’s, some of the most exciting entries come from Fiona Bigwood riding her own homebred mare BPS Supreme Bella (Sezuan x Don Juan de Hus), who qualified from Hickstead Premier League with 9.56. Additionally, Dannie Morgan will be contending another British-bred entry, Kristina Rausing’s Bombadillo (Belinski x Cashmir). The combination secured their qualification at the Parwood Young Horse Qualifier, where they scored 9.26. Furthermore, among our top scoring qualifications, Ruth Hole will be showcasing Jane Howard’s homebred mare Amity II (Allegretto x Supertramp). Ruth qualified the bay mare from Beechwood Equestrian Center with 8.58.
In the Five-Year Old’s, Sadie Smith is due to compete aboard Sarah Tyler Evans’ homebred gelding River Rise Roulette (Dynamic Dream x Negro). This combination qualified from Parwood Equestrian Centre, where they scored 8.80. Angus Corrie-Deane will also be contending his own German bred Stallion, Veyron (Viva Gold x Fidertanz). This combination qualified from Wellington Premier League, where they scored 8.78. Additionally, Tom Goode will also be contending Melissa Roos’ German bred gelding Dynamic Prince (Dynamic Dream x Foundation), who scored 8.36 to qualify from Weston Lawns EC.
In the Six-Year Old’s, Tyla Shou will be riding Ursula Bechtolsheimer and Laura Tomlinson’s German-bred mare, Vallemaggia (Vivino x Sarkozy). The combination won at the Hickstead Premier League qualifiers, where they scored 8.92. Bryony Goodwin will also be campaigning Antonia Brown’s German bred gelding, Simply Secret (Secret x Waikiki). This duo qualified from Weston Lawns EC, and remains among the highest scorer’s who will be competing at these semi-finals. Oliver Gould will also be campaigning his own British bred gelding, Di Mano (Dimaggio x Sir Donnerhall), having qualified at the Wellington Premier League with 8.56.
For the Seven-Year Old’s, we are due to witness spectacular performances from Dylan Duetrom, Jezz Palmer and Sadie Smith. Dylan, who won at the Hickstead Premier League with 82.90%, is due to compete with his own British bred gelding Balthazar III (Baron x Blue Hors Zack). Jezz Palmer will be contending Katie Oliver-Games’ Dutch-bred mare Bovary JBM (Baron x Dacaprio), whom he qualified from the Aster Academy by taking the win on 80.90%. Sadie Smith will adding another British-bred mare to the line-up, showcasing Sue Gerrard’s River Rise Onassis (Glamourdale x Amsterdam), having qualified from Wellington Premier League with 79.10%.
It’s an all-mare lineup the KBIS Four-Year-Old Pony Finals, with Ruth Hole entered on another of Jane Howard’s rides, Golden Future RB (Golden Gelb x Dornik B). This young pony qualified from Beechwood Equestrian Centre with 8.50. Additionally, Chloe Dawes will also be contending her homebred Figranta (Furstenball x Governor), who qualified from Hunters Equestrian with 7.10.
For the Five-Year-Old Pony Finals, Leah Beckett will be showcasing Lady Katherine Stuart’s Hania's Xavi (Jonkers' Jayden x Wengelo's Ricardo), who qualified from Parwood Equestrian with 8.46. Our top-scoring British-bred entry comes from Maria Pook riding her own Adonis MM (A New Star I x Top Zento). Additionally, Shelly Reeve-Smith has got two entries, both bred from the Maxted Massey Stud in Newmarket. MM Sweet Gucci (Woodlander Sir Gorgeous x Champion De Luxe), who won the 4yo Championships last year, and MM Sweet Uno Star (FS Numero Uno NRM x Chartstürmer WE) both qualified from the Vale View Premier League back in February, where they scored 7.04 and 7.14 respectively.
Finally, in the Six-Year-Old Pony Finals; Ruby Hughes and Victoria Ayling are two of the competitors battling for the title. Carmen is presenting Kairit Pavelyn’s Wonder Boy III (LEUNS VELD WINSTON JR. x OLD AVENUES’S LARISSA), who qualified from the Aster Academy with 7.70. Ruby Hughes will be presenting on the 2025 5yo Championship winner, Daria LGD (Cosmopolitan x Trendsetter). Owned by Emma Adams, the chestnut mare won last year on 7.82 with Lucy Goodman and is now being ridden by Ruby, who qualified from the qualifier at Weston Lawns EC with 7.68.
