Plans for the inaugural Wellington CDI, 11 – 16 May, are advancing well and the team is building towards a great first ever international dressage competition at the Hampshire venue. Entries are now closed and we can announce the British contingent selected across the seven divisions – Big Tour, Small Tour, U25, Young Rider, Junior, Children and Pony.

Wellington Waterloo Arena Flag

With the Big Tour classes granted Olympic qualification status, the best of the British senior riders are all entered in their bid for a place on the Tokyo plane and a spot for September’s European Championships in Hagen while the youth classes are well supported as our talented riders bid for selection for their respective FEI championships.

The international competition will be joined by our para riders who are bidding for a Tokyo Paralympic place who will ride three tests in the same format they would at the Games. This will give the riders and horses a much needed chance to ride with an atmosphere and in front of top judges, plus the selectors will also be in attendance so it’s a real chance to impress.

As well as the world class facilities which Wellington boasts, competitors will be under the eyes of some of the best judges currently officiating, with no less than seven FEI 5* judges on the panel of ten who will oversee the seven competitions. Our own Isobel Wessels is president of the Ground Jury and she’s joined by fellow British 5* judges Stephen Clarke, Peter Storr and Clive Halsall plus Nick Burton (3*), Raphael Saleh (5* - FRA), Trond Asmyr (4* - NOR), Maria Colliander (5* - FIN), Mary Robins (4* - NZL) and Susan Baarup Christensen (5* - DEN).

With the dates for Wellington falling ahead of the planned relaxation in COVID restrictions on 17 May, spectators will sadly be unable to watch the action in person. However, Horse & Country will be there to bring you livestream on their H&C + platform. A subscription is just £5.99 per month with no contract and you can cancel at any time. There’s loads more dressage content coming up on the platform so you’ll have plenty to watch in the coming weeks.
