British Dressage is delighted to publish details of the 2023 major dates calendar, with some exciting new venues allocated Winter and Summer Regional Championships for the next three-year cycle.

With the current agreements for the BD Regional Championships extended for an additional year due to COVID-19, many of our allocated venues completed their spell as hosts in 2022.  With change comes opportunity and a chance for a fresh approach, and the tender process has resulted in some new additions to the Regional Championship venue list, following careful consideration by the BD Sport Operations team and committee.

All BD venues are invited to apply for the Regionals and the BD Fixtures Panel, a sub-group of the Sport Operations Technical Committee, discuss each individual application in detail, in consultation and with input from Development Officers and Regional Chairs, where required.

To host these prestigious championships, organisers must meet minimum criteria to ensure that all venues have the required facilities to host large numbers of competitors and good quality provision for judges and officials, with the aim of providing a suitable geographical spread around the UK to minimise travel for our members.

Allocation is extremely challenging as all suitable venues deserve their chance to host a Regional Championship, and we acknowledge that some will be disappointed with the outcome this time.  However, with several venues making significant investment in recent years, we also wanted to offer some new additions the opportunity to host a major championship within the British Dressage roster.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those venues that have supported the Regional Championships over many years.  A significant amount of work goes into making these events a special occasion for our members, and we appreciate their commitment and ongoing contribution to British Dressage.  We will continue to build on our successful relationship with them in the future as other opportunities arise.

There are plenty of familiar names still on the list for next year, who we welcome back to our Regional Championship schedule again next year, alongside those new venues who are joining our major dates list for the first time.  We look forward to working with all these venues for the next three-year cycle, from 2023 to 2025 inclusive.
