BD Abroad: Lier CDI4*/U25

Under 25s European Champion Charlotte Fry made a winning return to the international arena at last week’s CDI Lier, hosted at the impressive Azelhof Horse Events centre, Belgium (27 February – 3 March 2019).

Making her CDI debut at U25s level with the Van Olst’s outstanding stallion Everdale (Lord Leatherdale x Negro), Charlotte strolled to two victories earning top marks of 71.43% in the 16 – 25 Grand Prix and 75.26% in the Grand Prix Freestyle.

Opting to step her European Champion partner up to senior level, Charlotte continued to make an impression finishing as best of the brits in the CDI4* Grand Prix with 69.65% and a creditable eigth place. The well-matched duo went on to score 69% in the Grand Prix Special for eighth. A busy week for the Yorkshire-born rider concluded with three more top ten placings, this time in the CDI4* Small Tour competitions with the Van Olst’s chestnut gelding Fendi T.

Emma Hindle and Romy Del Sol also enjoyed a fantastic show, the 13 year old mare by Blue Hors Romanov showed her talent for tenth in the Grand Prix scoring 69.02% and fifth in the Grand Prix Special with 70.06%.

A usually electric atmosphere at the busy show in Azelhof was sadly dampened by the news of the devastating barn fire at Gestut Erlenhof, home to the Rothenberger family who’d travelled to Belgium with their youngest daughter Semmieke to contest the Young Rider classes. The team at British Dressage send their sincere condolences.
