A development quartet was selected for the second European instalment of the FEI Nations CupTM at the Equitour Aalborg show in Uggerhalne, hosted by Danish entrepreneur Andreas Helgstrand. Louise Bell was the ‘veteran’ of the team having been in one previous Nations Cup team at Hickstead last year while Sara Gallop, Liz Diegutis and Georgia Stokes were all awarded their red pocket flag for the first time representing Great Britain on an international team.

Rainy, blustery conditions met the riders on arrival which weren’t ideal but the quartet coped well in a high pressure situation. Extra nerves, wind, competing in a team for the first time and a huge international stage kept some scores in check but Sara Gallop and her own Bandreo put in a really strong performance in the first round to earn a top ten place with 69.17%, an International personal best in the Grand Prix.

The team may have missed out on a podium finish but the experience gained will last a lifetime and only drive them forwards with their careers and training.

Liz Diegutis took to Facebook on arrival home after two long days of travel to say; “What can I say? I achieved a dream this last week and it’s just made me hungry for more in a sport I adore and given more dreams I want to achieve!” What a great way to sum up an amazing experience.
