BD Abroad: Waregem CDI results

The contingent of British of riders who travelled to Belgium achieved promising results at Waregem CDI3*/CDIu25/CDIYJP (12 – 16 September 2018).

In the Big Tour, British Olympian Emma Hindle and her elegant mare Romy Del Sol (by Romanov Blue Hors), pictured earlier this year, continued their consistent form. 

They delivered a solid Grand Prix for 68.43% and fifth place on Thursday, followed by a Grand Prix Special victory just shy of 69% to conclude their week.

Junior rider Jessica McConkey, who made her European Championship debut this year in Fontainebleau, was delighted to earn her first international victory. Her winning Junior Team Test score of 68.48% with nine-year-old mare Lady Gaga II gave them a clear lead ahead of the home nation’s Emma Driesen and Kalahari in second.

“Millie [Lady Gaga] and I are now home back from an amazing week away in Waregem having won our first international together! (And getting our first 7 for our pirouettes - they are not one of our strongest movements!).

“Although when competing in the Individual test, unfortunately it was not our day with a few uncharacteristic mistakes. But [I'm] still thrilled with Millie’s performance in our Team test. Now to focus on the younger horses while Millie has a well-earned few days off.”

Ellie McCarthy and Sir Lancelot M (Lordanos x Ginsberg 4), a 13-year-old stallion owned by Bridget McCarthy, were the winning combination in the U25 Grand Prix and Freestyle with scores of 66.02% and 67.32% respectively. The 21-year-old who is based with her trainer Helen Langehanenburg in Germany was happy with the performance of the beautiful grey who was acquired just 12 months ago.

“We only went and won!” said Ellie on Facebook after Friday’s U25 Grand Prix. “[It was] Far from our best test but still a respectable score of 66%”
