For yet another year the Addington Manor Winter Regionals proved a popular fixture in the British Dressage calendar (22 – 25 February 2018). The Buckinghamshire venue played host to almost 400 competitors, with some outstanding results being produced across the levels.

Earning the highest qualifying score to date in the KBIS Prelim Silver competitions was Rebecca Page with Carolyn Watson’s Flamencoswald (by Florencio I) who topped the large class of 30 riders with a brilliant 73.97%. Cambridge based Rebecca (21) hails from eventing, having produced her top horse Liberty Bell II to CCI1* level. However, her future inside the white boards also looks bright as she has already achieved her qualification points for the Summer Regionals at Prelim level with her Regional Champion partner Flamencoswald, known as ‘Nellie’ at home. Speaking on her Facebook page about her win Rebecca (pictured) said, ‘Incredible day at the dressage winter regionals! A win for Nellie on a cracking 73.97%. Nationals here we come!! Big thanks to Carolyn, a great owner, trainer and supporter and also to mum who always supports and drove the lorry on her day off.’

The Novice classes were a close fought affair all round but it was Sadie Smith who emerged as an unbeatable force with the Negro sired Nutbush. Sadie and Nutbush took home the titles in both the Blue Chip Novice Gold (73.83%) and the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Freestyle Gold (75.65%). The six-year-old gelding is owned by none other than the team behind Valegro - Carl Hester, Anne Barrott and Roly Luard – with similar bloodlines and a winning group of owners, the talented bay will surely be one to watch over the next few years.

It was however the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Freestyle Silver class that heralded the highest score of the show as Nicola Pearce earned an impressive 76.11% with her own Keystone Quartz, a seven-year-old British bred mare by Quaterback. Quartz was originally purchased by Sally Green as a foal from UK Hanoverians.

Craig Millard was king of the Freestyles taking home two titles with Shirley Rixon’s eight-year-old KWPN Flores L. The elegant duo danced to victory in both the PDS Saddles Elementary Freestyle Gold with 72.95% and the Spillers Medium Freestyle Gold with 73.17%. Flores L will be heading to Hartpury with another one of Shirley Rixon’s talented string, Penhaligon’s Jupiter, who placed second in the Charles Owen Advanced Medium Gold with Jayne Turney on board – the duo finished behind jubilant winners Mark Forrest and Bonita VI.

No less than 21 riders under the age of 25 enjoyed top ten placings at the Addington Regionals, with an emphatic win coming from Harriet Kipping in the Nupafeed Advanced Medium Silver Freestyle, a class where the top two were split by less than half a percent. Harriet, who trains with Rhett Bird, scored 74.33% to finish just in front of Sarah Alderman with Zendy whilst 21-year-old Izzy Chaplin and Vincente III completed the top three.

British Dressage thanks all the team at Addington Manor for a successful Winter Regionals as well as the Championship class sponsors. Congratulations to all competitors who took part and good luck to those heading to Hartpury for the NAF Five Star Winter Championships.
