Denmark-based Annabella Pidgley travelled to CDI Aalborg to compete in the U25 division aboard Sarah Pidgley’s Gio (Apache x Tango). Annabella followed on from her success at the same venue last year with Vamos Amigos. Aboard Gio, the duo earned a double win in the U25 Grand Prix and Freestyle class with 73.205% and 75.100%. In a hugely successful performance that included nines for their piaffe and canter pirouettes, the duo topped the scoreboards with a near five percent lead over second place in the Grand Prix. Taking to social media, Annabella described the event as “an unforgettable week with Pumpkin! He felt absolutely incredible from the very first ride, and I couldn’t be happier with how everything came together”. In the Freestyle, the duo danced to a Taylor Swift themed freestyle earning 75.100%, including scoring 81.400% for their artistic mark from one of the judges, launching them in to the lead ahead of Denmark’s Laura Elisabeth Kjær Rohmann, who scored 72.275%. “I’m so proud of this horse and the partnership we continue to build together”, Annabella commented, “Every time I enter the arena with Pumpkin, I’m reminded why I love this sport so much. He gives me everything every single ride, and dancing with him never stops feeling magical”.

In the same week, German-based Susan Pape travelled to compete at CDI Hamburg at the 5* Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle. Competing against some of the top names in our sport, including Isabel Werth (GER), Isabel Freese (NOR) and Ingrid Klimke (GER), Susan finished tenth in the Grand Prix with 68.804%, aboard her own and Harmony Sporthorses’ Harmony’s V-Plus (Vivaldi x Furst Romancier). The combination then went on to contest the Freestyle competition, where they finished fourth with an international personal best 74.620%.  The Freestyle was won by Isabelle Werth and Viva Gold OLD, who won with a seven percent lead on 84.365%. Ingrid Klimke finished second on First Class 92 with 77.040%, and Moritz Treffinger and Fiderdance finished third with 76.525%. Having debuted the 12-year-old Stallion on the international circuit at the 2019 Ermelo Young Horse World Championships, the combination has had great success, building their way from CDI1* through to 5* and collecting multiple wins along the way.

At the start of May, Gibraltar-based Stella McComb travels to CDI Las Cadenas, Spain, to compete in the Children on Horses classes aboard her two rides owned by Darren Anthony McComb, Dos Alamos and Scarlett Secret Soleil. In the Preliminary B, Stella achieved two top ten placings in front of judges Claudia Matos (POR), Peter Holler (GER) and Alban Tissot (FRA). Aboard her 2009 gelding Dos Alamos, Stella finished fourth with a score of 72.337%, only 0.125% behind third place and a personal best for the combination in this test. Aboard her 2019 mare, Scarlett Secret Soleil, the combination finished tenth with 67.447%.

The following day saw Stella take on the Team Test, again finishing fourth with Dos Alamos on a score of 72.150% in front of judges Alban Tissot (FRA), Maria Colliander (FIN) and Monique Peutz-Vegter (NED). Stella also achieved her second top-ten placing on Scarlett Secret Soleil, finishing ninth with 68.500%. Following her success on the first two days, Stella and Dos Alamos went ahead to compete in the Individual Test in front of judges Magnus Ringmark (SWE), Eduard De Wolff Van Westerrode (NED) and Claudia Matos (POR). The combination finished fifth in a very tight top-five, with just under two percent separating first and fifth place.

A huge congratulations go to all the riders and their teams for their success over the last month.
