Aintree International Equestrian Centre’s first ever High Profile Show (28 – 31 October 2021), sponsored by Knowsley Estate Private Stays, proved a huge success with competitors and spectators alike, attracting a quality entry across the levels. Riders who travelled to the venue, located at the iconic home of the Randox Health Grand National, enjoyed fantastic facilities and slick organisation courtesy of the Aintree team.

Dylan Deutrom & San Marco

Dylan Deutrom (24), who travelled from his base at Hicks Equestrian in Hampshire, was on top form sealing a treble of small tour victories with San Marco, and a win at Inter II with his U25 Grand Prix partner, Sunlit Uplands.

San Marco (Status Quo x Gribaldi) - pictured above, owned by William Deans and Sarah Church, was piloted by Dylan to a double on Thursday claiming both the Magic Prix St Georges Gold (71.80%) and the Superflex Intermediate I Gold (72.46%). Tyler Bradshaw, showing great consistency, completed the top three on both occasions with Gijsbert and Igor VIII second and third respectively. Dylan and San Marco later sealed their hat-trick winning Saturday's Superflex Intermediate I with a cracking 74.34%.

The expressive San Marco, now 11, won the Shearwater 6YO Championship in 2016 with the late Caroline Church, making him another young horse series success story.

Dylan and Sunlit Uplands (Don Henrico x Hitchcock), owned Sarah Warry and Matt Hicks, competed in the U25 divisions at Wellington CDI in Hampshire earlier this year, and were non-travelling reserves for the FEI U25 European Championships in Hagen.

Saturday’s gala evening, sponsored by Knowsley Estate Private Stays, offered a generous prize pot for each of the FEI level freestyles. Becky Moody’s Jagerbomb (Dante Weltino x Jazz), holder of this year’s national seven-year-old title, took the Prix St Georges Freestyle Gold on a whopping 78.12%. Katie Bailey meanwhile finished close on Becky’s heels with a handsome 77.00% aboard Elissa Bucher’s talented nine-year-old Defago (by Dancier).

Last month, Matt Frost and Helga (Chagall D&R x Samba Hit II) enjoyed a great evening in the Dressage Future Elite Championships at HOYS. Here at Aintree the athletic nine-year-old mare once again displayed her vast potential and their David Guetta, Kygo, Sia programme earned 73.42% to take home the Intermediate I Freestyle.

Emma Hindle & Diesel 8

British Olympian Emma Hindle and her Vivaldi x Havidoff gelding, Diesel 8 (pictured above) were awarded 74.38% from the judging panel of Richard Baldwin, Claire Ballantyne and Helen Bradley to top the leaderboard in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Their enjoyable programme, to a Lady Gaga compilation by Tom Hunt, showed lovely lightness and expression which was well appreciated by the gala evening crowd.

Locally-based Lisa Marriott was delighted to secure the most prestigious win so far in her career with the talented Valucio (Va-Vite x Bollvorm’s Libero H) - pictured below. The 12-year-old gelding known at home as ‘Rocket’, in his third season at Grand Prix, was second to Emma Hindle and Diesel 8 in Saturday’s night’s freestyle before clinching Sunday’s LeMieux Grand Prix with a solid 70.93%.

Lisa Marriott & Valucio

“Well Rocket it’s been a long time coming!” said Lisa on social media. “After a wicked second in the Grand Prix Freestyle with 71%+ in Saturday’s exciting gala night, sponsored by Knowsley Estate Private Stays, Rocket gave me a clear round on Sunday to win the Grand Prix with over 70%! It’s our first sash and rug together…at any level actually. It’s only taken us eight years!

“To gain three 8s for riding and wonderful comments from the judges was the icing on the cake and meant so much! Thank you.

“Aintree Racecourse is an iconic venue and one to be proud of on our doorstep. The whole team there including the stewards went above and beyond to make their first High Profile Show an absolute success and they 100% nailed it!”

In the U21s divisions it was great to see some new partnerships in action. One such pair is Myles Graham (14) with Caroline Bell’s Nibeley Union Hit (Nibeley Union Jack x Sandro Hit). Nibeley Union Hit, aka Una, has enjoyed a fantastic career with Caroline’s daughter Rebecca Bell achieving national and international success along the way.

It’s exciting to see this mare with the next generation of youth rider, helping Miles to launch his Junior career. “Wow,” said Myles on MG Dressage Facebook. “How privileged am I to ride this special lady, thanks to the Bell family.”
