The final days of the Wellington Autumn International (5 – 11 October) highlighted the next generation of dressage talent, with standout performances wrapping up the prestigious Pony, Junior and Young Rider divisions. Junior rider Queenie Moule secured her first double of international victories at the level, while Ruby Hughes continued her winning streak by claiming two comeback victories in the Young Riders classes.
FEI European Pony Championships team member Queenie Moule enjoyed her first double win at Junior level with Louise Moule’s eight-year-old mare Baroness Bibi (Benicio x Don Romantic). Impressing judges Isobel Wessels (H – GBR), Kurt Christensen (C – DEN) and Carlos Lopes (B – POR), Queenie and Bibi scored 69.242% in the team test. They then built in confidence for the individual test to score an international personal best of 69.608% in front of judges Mats Eriksson (H – SWE), Pascal Strohbücker (C – GER) and Isobel Wessels (B – GBR).
“One of the biggest highlights for me was Bibi’s extended canter”, Queenie commented, “She is such a powerful mare, and it’s really our ‘party piece’! I love being able to show off her natural ability and expression in the extended work, and I think it’s something that really highlights her strengths. Another highlight was our flying changes. We have been working incredibly hard on them, so it was very rewarding to feel them coming together in the arena. Bibi has such beautiful, expressive changes, and it’s exciting to see that work paying off. Overall, I was absolutely delighted with how the tests went. I have always believed in us and in what we are capable of achieving together, so to be able to start showing that in the arena is a really special feeling. As we continue to get to know each other, I feel there is so much more to come.”
Queenie and the liver chestnut mare have been quietly building their partnership together throughout the year following their BD debut back at the end of 2025. Speaking about that journey so far, Queenie told us that “she is my first horse, which makes our partnership particularly special to me. She is a big mare with a huge presence, but she also has the biggest heart, and she has looked after me so well from the very beginning.” So far this season this pair achieved second place at both the summer Wellington CDI and Hartpury spring CDI, as well as making appearances at the Hickstead Premier League and at the LeMieux National Championships: “This year, I have had the opportunity to compete Bibi alongside my pony, which has been a really valuable experience. It has allowed me to develop my partnership with a bigger horse and learn together without the added pressure of campaigning for team selection. Bibi has taught me so much already and has really shown me the way as I have grown in confidence with her.”
With her pony Amden Supreme Golden Dancer, Queenie was selected for the Pony team who travelled to Le Mans for the FEI European Championships at the end of June, where she made a strong championship debut by scoring 69.685% in the opening team test. Looking forward to her future plans with Bibi, Queenie told us that “A big dream of mine is to one day be selected for the junior team at the European Championships. Having had my first taste of competing at the Pony Europeans this year, it has given me even more motivation and excitement for what the future might hold. It would be amazing to work towards that goal with Bibi and see how far we can go together.”
The top three remained unchanged for the Team and Individual competition, with Oriana McNamara finishing second aboard Andrea McNamara’s Active Solaris (Sezuan x Fidermark), scoring 68.29% and 67.75% respectively. Lily Cawley finished just behind aboard Helen and Jon Cawley’s Quimbaya RNW (Qautertime x Samarant) with 66.313% and 66.667% across the two days.
In the Young Rider tests, Ruby Hughes added to her already incredibly successful results in the 3* competition by taking a double win on Claire Wyatt’s nine-year-old stallion Fire Kracka (Fidertanz x Diamond Hit). Ruby and Kracka have been making a steady return to competition since the young stallion picked up an unfortunate injury in 2025, and have made an incredibly strong comeback over the season. Most recently the pair won the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges regionals at Vale View, qualifying them for the LeMieux National Championships where they finished fourth on 70.12%. Over the weekend, however, this formidable combination made a strong return to the international stage taking a double win in the Young Rider team and Individual classes, winning by margins in excess of four percent. They scored 68.137% in the team test in front of judges Mariette Sanders Van Gansewinkel (H – NED), Alice Schwab (C – AUT) and Isobel Wessels (B – GBR), before going on to score 69.559% in the individual in front of judges Mariette Sanders Van Gansewinkel (H – NED), Alice Schwab (C – AUT) and Nick Burton (B – GBR). Speaking about her success on social media, Ruby commented that she was “unbelievably proud of Kracka today. He showed some super quality in his test and his is constantly growing in maturity at this level. There were some expensive mistakes, but still super consistent scores of 68%+. I am so grateful to Claire Wyatt for her endless support and this opportunity.”
The Pony section was won on both days by Italian rider Alice Ferrarini on Ja’bella Ap S’ Lykkehøjs Dream Of Dornik (Melli’s Dornik x Cupkeshof Winobert), who scored 69.143% in the team test in front of judges Alice Schwab (H – AUT), Kurt Christensen (C – DEN) and Mariette Sanders Van Gansewinkel (B – NED). In the individual, the pair then went on to score 68.604%, impressing judges Isobel Wessels (H – GBR), Mariette Sanders Van Gansewinkel (C – NED) and Carlos Lopes (B – POR). On both days, Annabella Howe followed closely in second place behind Alice, scoring 68.571% and 68.063% aboard her own Champignon Sauvage (FS Champion de Luxe x Catherston Gold Storm). India Adams completed the top-three lineup for the team test, scoring 65.667% aboard Enma Adams’ Reitland’s Don Totilas (Diamond x Nixen), and Sophia Sutton finished third in the individual test, scoring 67.162% aboard Leomi Dicker’s Junkbrunnen's Taj Mahal (Talisman x FS Dr Watson).
Thanks go to the organisers and team at Wellington for delivering a superbly run event, and congratulations to all riders and connections for their hard work and excellent performances throughout the competition.
