After making a jubilant return to the competition arena earlier in the spring, Charlotte Dujardin continued her winning ways with a clean sweep of victories on board Big Tour ride Imhotep (Everdale x Vivaldi) and rising star Times Kismet.
Carl Hester and Coral Ingham’s gelding, who was an integral part of Britain’s medal success at the 2022 FEI World Championships, looked a picture in the Hampshire sunshine to secure a Grand Prix victory on 80.196% before notching up an almost identical mark of 80.872% in the Grand Prix Special.
Alongside her Grand Prix success, Charlotte enjoyed a duo of wins at Small Tour level on board Peter Belshaw’s bright talent Times Kismet (Ampere x Lord Leatherdale). In both the CDI1* Prix St Georges and Intermediate I classes, the combination were six percent clear of a class field scoring 77.647% and 77.843% respectably. The Newent-based rider also enjoyed success in the Premier League classes (report to follow) making a full return to fine form, and was quick to praise her string and team on social media: “I can’t put into words how proud I am of these horses who just get better each and every week. I want to thank Carl, Alan, Dean, Ian, Peter, Coral and our team behind the scenes for your unwavering support and to my sponsors for being by my side.

Carl Hester added another victory to his successful spring count with En Vogue earning 82.945% to place ahead of Gareth Hughes and Classic Briolinca in a close-fought Grand Prix Freestyle showdown; Gareth’s score was an equally impressive 82.420% leaving the top two split by the narrowest of margins. Becky Moody’s Jagerbomb (Dante Weltino x Jazz) continues to find his feet at International Grand Prix level and posted two superb performances at Wellington, concluding the week with third place in the Freestyle on 77.835%.
In the U25 classes, Mette Dahl enjoyed a week to remember achieving four wins with her two rides Sir Donato and Caporal De Massa (Rieto x Xaquiro). In the Junior category, Mette and Fiona Bigwood’s grey stallion ‘Capo’ scored two plus 71% tests to claim the Team and Individual competitions, concluding a success campaign which rewarded a place on this year’s European Championship team. Whilst it was in the U25 tour that Mette claimed Intermediate II and 16 – 25 Grand Prix wins with two creditable scores of 69.020% and 67.906%. Sir Donato (Sir Donnerhall) has been owned by the Bigwood family since the age of 2; speaking on social media, mother Fiona was full of praise for Mette’s winning horse on social media, “he is now 18 years old and still looking fab. It was a very special moment for all of us as this was Mette’s first U25 international competition and it was lovely that she was riding a family favourite.”
Annabella Pidgley also notched up a double of wins in convincing fashion, producing her team partner Espe to 74.657% and 75.049% to stand clear in the Young Rider division. Fellow selected rider Jessica Mcconkey was twice-second with her long-term dancing partner Lady Gaga, whilst her direct reserve Wilson Stensvang also showed good form for third in the Individual competition and Team test fifth.
A competitive fixture in the Pony category saw Abigail Grey and George Clooney B.S (pictured below) triumph in the Team test (71.286%), before the Individual test went the way of Sofia Games, who achieved a one-two with Lauren Geraghty’s WS Jackson and Janet Oliver and Katie Oliver-Games’ Steendieks Cadillac. The Children-on-Horses accolades were also split between two rising stars, as Darcey Blaze Marcus and Mimi Kempster each claimed a class win.
