It’s been a fantastic first couple of days of competition over in Le Mans, France for our Pony riders, who have come away with a close fifth place in the extremely tough Team competition.
Our British pathfinder was Georgie Morgan with Brouwershaven’s Jasper, who produced a fantastic European Championship debut test to score 67.143%. Georgie produced a super supple and accurate test, where the trot work showed lots of well ridden moments with excellent extended trots. The canter tour proved a highlight for the pair, with smooth simple changes and lots of expression through the extended canter. Speaking after her test, Georgie commented that “the highlight of the test was that the simple changes were really clean, so I was really pleased with how I rode them. Jasper was really responsive in the collection and stayed with me the whole time. I was delighted with my test, I felt like we delivered a clean and accurate test. It was a surreal moment to ride down the centre line at a European Championships representing my country”.
Following Georgie, Amelia Goodear was the second rider down the centre line with Furioso V.H. Enkershof. The duo danced their way around an energetic, positive test. The trot work showed excellent lightness from both horse and rider, which was maintained in the canter work where they showed good fluency and accuracy through the simple changes. This resulted in the pair scoring 69.429%, with Amelia explaining that she was “over the moon with Fury”, and that “He tried so hard for me, we felt very harmonious and he was really listening to me. My half volte’s and my final centre line were the highlights of my test”.
Third to go was Queenie Moule with Amden Supreme Golden Dancer, who produced an extremely accurate and expressive performance to finish on 69.685%. There were lots of fantastic moments in the test, including their rangy trot half passes, elevated collected trot work and super balanced collected canter. After her test, Queenie remarked that "the atmosphere in the arena was incredible and after years of dreaming of this moment, me and my boy danced down our centre line to place 15th out of the top 50 riders. I cannot begin to put in to words the feeling I experienced with Leo. Everything we worked for led to this centre line. Me and my boy rode a beautiful test which I will remember forever. I cannot wait for the Individual test tomorrow."
Finally, Ella Fraser rounded off the Team campaign, producing yet enough brilliant score for the team to finish on 69.343% and secure the team placing. Ella and Fury presented a correct and harmonious test, with the fluent trot lateral work and impressive extended trot and canter proving real highlights of the test. Reflecting on their test via social media, Ella commented that "the feeling in this test was probably the best I've ever had on Leo. His contact was exactly how we wanted it, and he stayed with me from start to finish. We just had a little too much power, which caught me out in a couple of places, but there's so much to take away from this test."
Huge well done to all the riders for their success, and we look forward to the Individual test where all of the riders have been drawn to compete on Saturday. On behalf of BDHQ, we would also like to extend our thanks to the team Performance Manager and Chef D’Equipe, Nina Boex and Tom Hobday for all their hard work whilst they are out there with the riders.
