Home-produced wins headline Bury Farm Regionals

The Bury Farm Regionals (21 – 23 July) saw some of our best and brightest British-bred and home-produced talent claiming top spots and securing their qualifications to the LeMieux National Championships.

In the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges, Nicolle Begovic and own Dutch-bred gelding Jeroen Leatherdale G (Lord Leatherdale x Negro) took a commanding win, leading the class by two percent to finish on 69.560%. Nicolle has produced Jerry through the levels having purchased him from the Van Olst Stud as a six-year-old, and made their British Dressage debut back in 2021 where they competed at Elementary level. This exciting win at Regionals comes off the back of the pair’s success at the Hartpury CDI1*, where Nicolle represents Bosnia and Herzegovina. The pair achieved two eighth-place finishes in the Prix St Georges and Intermediate I classes, and finished 14th in the Intermediate I Freestyle to Music on the final day.  “Winning the Prix St George Silver Regional Championship was incredibly special”, Nicolle commented, “It was one of those tests where everything came together, and I was especially pleased with how relaxed, confident and expressive Jerry felt throughout. Our partnership is very special, and I adore Jerry to bits. 

“In the run-up to the Nationals, my focus will simply be on continuing to develop the quality. We will be working on improving expression in the more advanced movements, while keeping Jerry happy, confident and enjoying his work. I have produced him through the levels to Small Tour, with the Big Tour work being developed carefully in the background. He is an incredibly talented horse with a huge heart, and watching him grow in confidence has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my riding career. Representing Bosnia and Herzegovina internationally with him this season has also been a proud moment, making this regional title feel even more special.

“This win means a huge amount to me. It’s my first regional championship win and direct qualification to the Nationals, making it a real milestone in our journey together. This has come after an exciting summer season competing in our first CDI’s together achieving really good results.”

Following in second place, Ella Banham scored 67.840% on her own Impulz De B (Apache x Don Frederico), impressing judges Keri Bates (E), Sue McMahon (C) and John Robinson (M). Tracey Nelson rounded off the podium aboard her own Charisma DD (Christ x De Niro) with a score of 66.810%.

For Herefordshire-based Lucy Goodman, Bury Farm also marked an exciting win aboard Calum Whitworth, Ryan Shannon and Yvonne Uprichard’s six-year-old Paschalis (Grand Galaxy Win x United) in front of judges Linda Pearce (E), Claire Ballantyne (C) and Martyne Galland (M). Taking the win in the extremely hot BETTALIFE Novice Gold class with a stellar two percent lead on 73.760%, the young British-bred gelding, who was bred by John Barlow, made his competitive debut with Lucy at the end of 2025. “I was delighted with Paschalis at Bury Farm” Lucy remarked, “this is his first season of competition and his is growing in confidence with each outing. He gave me a great feel in the test and I enjoyed every moment. He is a great talent for the future and I’m very lucky to have the opportunity to compete him this season!”. The duo also competed at the Hartpury KBIS Young Horse Semi-Finals at the beginning of the month, where they finished in eighth place on 7.78.

Warwickshire-based Paul Friday finished in second place aboard Christine Trendell’s homebred mare Dubai Dubai (F-D’avie x Flemmingh), completing on a final score of 71.130%. Concluding the podium line-up, Ami Mclean finished in third place aboard Anna Bradbury’s Dutch-bred mare Penumbra (Trafalgar x Bretton Woods). The pair scored 70.860% to complete the top-three lineup in extremely close company. For riders, there was just 1.450% separating second to tenth place, with the top nine riders scoring over 70%.
