Parwood Summer Regionals showcase emerging and established talent

The Parwood Summer Regionals (17 – 19 July) showcased a display of commanding wins, especially for riders Lauren Burrows and Charlotte Smithwhite.

Lauren Burrows dominated the Absolute Equestrian Collective Prelim Gold, securing the win aboard Karin and Kristina Rausing’s homebred five-year-old mare Darling Dotty (Damaschiano I x Cashmir). Lauren and Dotty impressed judges Penelope Lang (C), Sara-Jane Prew (H) and Janet Surr (B) to score 78.000% and take an outstanding lead of nearly eight percent ahead of second place. Having only attending a handful of shows prior to the Regionals, Lauren stated that she was “really proud of Dotty at Parwood. She is only five years old and has just started competing this year. I think that this was only her fifth ever show so I was delighted with her rideability and confidence in the test. I have been riding Dotty since she was a just backed three-year-old, so it was really special to win on 78%, especially since I have recently moved up to the gold section, so I went in just hoping to hold my own! She is such a gorgeous little mare and I’m very grateful to her owners Karin and Kristina Rausing for giving me the opportunity to ride and compete Dotty, and to Dannie Morgan for all his help and training. 

“In the lead up to the Nationals I will continuing to develop her balance and ability to present the test in a nice frame. Most importantly, I want Dotty to have a good experience at her first Nationals.”

David Rumsey finished in second place, scoring 70.600% aboard Andrea Groves’ Ronero Ancla III (Pavito MUB x Guaro V). With just half a mark separating them, Thomas Bobis finished in third with his own Light Blue de Massa (Jovian x Addict De Massa) on 70.530%, making the trio the only three competitors to achieve over 70% in the class.

Another decisive victory from this competition came from Charlotte Smithwhite, who won the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges Silver aboard Luciano on 69.800%. In front of judges Fiona Wilson (C), Alison Duck (M) and Leanne Wall (E), Charlotte and Lucci led the class by over three percent. Lucci is an 11-year-old Trakehner who was bred in Britain by Marlene Smith, and whom Charlotte has been riding for just over three years. Reflecting on their test, Charlotte commented that “the highlight from our test was the tempi changes, where we scored 7.5 for both. All three judges commented on our partnership and harmony which was lovely. Over our last couple of tests, Lucci suddenly feels like he’s able to show more of the quality of work we get at home; so, to be honest that feeling from him meant the most to me. Winning the title was the cherry on top. We are trained by Calum Whitworth and Adam Kemp. He is co-owned by myself, Katie Warner, Rosemary Harper and Eloise O’Donohoe”. Looking forward to the rest of the season in the run up to the National Championships, Charlotte and Lucci are due to compete at the Hartpury Summer Regionals, where they will aim to claim a second qualification at Intermediate I, “We have been at the Nationals at Elementary, Medium and Advanced Medium so far, so we are very excited to be going at PSG, and with any luck Inter I!”

Owen Davies finished in second place with Sarah Kerr’s Felicia II (Sir Oldenberg x Vivaldi) with 66.030%, and Bertie Collyer completed the podium with Carolyn Collyer’s Fiasco II (Jazz x Inspekteur) on 65.830%.
