Preview: Hickstead CDIO 3* Nations Cup

This week sees the highly anticipated Hickstead CDIO 3*/P/J/YR event return to the premier Southern venue (25 – 29 July 2018).

A host of stars are lined up to contest the CDIO 3 * Nations Cup competition with representatives from Great Britain, France, Sweden and Portugal. Spencer Wilton and Jen Goodman’s Supernova will start following their successful return to the arena at last month’s Hartpury CDI 3*. Spencer is joined by his fellow 2017 European Championships compatriot Gareth Hughes who will present both Rebecca Hughes and Julia Hornig’s Classic Briolinca and the Kroll family’s KK Woodstock. Also amongst those also representing the home nation are Henriette Andersen, Matt Frost, Sarah Millis and Laura Tomlinson.

The foreign entries present a handful of WEG hopefuls including French JO/JEM squad combinations Bertrand Liegard with Star Wars, Marie-Emilie Bretenoux with Quartz of Jazz and Henry Ludovic with After You. Canadian turned American rider Ashley Holzer will compete PJ Rizvi’s Sir Caramello (Sir Donnerhall x Feiner Stern), the in-form combination have won several CDI Grand Prix classes worldwide throughout the season.

The CDI2* small and medium tour competitions are set to be equally as competitive with no less than 41 horses entered from 12 different countries. Britain will be represented by 21 riders including in-form ladies Nicola Buchanan, Hannah Biggs, Kate Cowell, Nathalie Kayal and Vicky Thompson-Winfield.

The Youth competitions provide a fantastic opportunity for our younger riders to dip their toes into the water of international competition. With Pony, Junior, Young Rider and U25 Grand Prix classes running there will be plenty of opportunity for home success across the age groups.
