We are very sad to hear of the passing of Brigit Powell at the age of 84. Brigit was a dedicated judge, writer and horse owner, as well as being a profound supporter of the sport.

Close friend of Brigit, Lorrie Sisson, said; "I have just heard from Jane Kendall that Brigit has passed away. It is so sad. She came on the first trip I ever took for the BDSC [British Dressage Supporters Club] to Rome in 1998 and she only missed one in all those years. She was always a pleasure to have with us and enjoyed them so much."

Brigit was a list 5 judge and regularly judged at shows around Cornwall and Devon. She also wrote for judges on a regular basis at the major shows held at Hartpury College.

Brigit was a co-owner of the highly successful Chagall, also owned and ridden by Isobel Wessels. Isobel first met Brigit when she was taking a judges' course in Cornwall, this led to Brigit expressing an interest in buying a horse with her – the result of this was a co-ownership of Isobel’s Grand Prix horse Chagall.

Remembering Brigit, Isobel’s husband Justin said; "For us, not only was she was the most supportive and generous owner, we will miss her as a friend enormously."

All at British Dressage offer our condolences to Brigit’s friends and family at this sad time. Details of Brigit’s funeral will be published when available.
