The next three days will be a showcase of the best young dressage horse talent on offer in the United Kingdom with four specialist competitions hosted at Keysoe Equestrian Centre in Bedfordshire, 2 – 4 October.

Shearwater 4Yo Edit

Friday features an elite group of five, six and seven year olds who are bidding for selection for the revised FEI Dressage World Breeding Championships in December in Verden, Germany. After meeting set criteria, 15 combinations have been invited to ride the FEI Final test for their age category in front of judges Ferdi Eilberg and Richard Baldwin with the added scrutiny of the Senior Selectors for the chance to represent Britain in December.

The weekend focus is on the Shearwater Young Horse Championships, the British Dressage Young Pony Championships and the inaugural British Dressage Seven Year Old Championships.

A long-standing favourite in the dressage calendar, the Shearwater Championships are the main goal for many riders, breeders and dressage producers. With COVID-19 impacting on competitions heavily, it was always a firm intention to get the qualifiers back in the calendar once shows returned with the three championships the end goal. We now have three strong classes for four, five and six year olds in place with bumper entries.

Similarly, the seven year old championships were announced earlier in the year as part of a number of new innovations at the LeMieux National Championships and while the main event couldn’t take place, we secured a revised for this new championships.
