Festival Focus - Alnwick Ford Equestrian 21
The second summer festival of the year at Alnwick Ford Equestrian (9 – 11 July) saw qualified riders battle it out for a place at the Petplan Equine Area Summer Championship in October. A full weekend of musical action alongside busy classes proved to be an interesting competition.

The oldest athlete of the day won two classes, the Prelim and Freestyle Silver with 69.65% and 69.17%, Oscar IX a 26-year-old gelding and his rider Lestryne Wheldon. After previously competing in My Quest they have turned their hand to Area Festivals to gain their first Qualifications to the Championships in October. Lestryne is “On cloud nine after having won both the Summer Area Festival Prelim Silver Freestyle and Summer Area Festival Prelim Silver classes on my 26 year old boy, Oscar.” They have had a tough year battling with two episodes of lymphangitis, “After almost losing him last year, it's amazing to think he's recovered so well at the age of 26 years old to go on to win two Area Festival classes. This boy never ceases to amaze me!” We look forward to seeing you both later in the year.
It was a first for Laura Robson and Holling Blue Rock, who made their debut to affiliated competition in the Prelim Bornze to gain the winning score of 70.14%. Laura took to social media to express her gratitude to the venue for an amazing show, “I had a fab weekend at Alnwick Ford Equestrian Summer area festival, we have only been competing affiliated for 3 months so was so pleased to have qualified.” They were also fourth in the Novice Bronze but her win made her day, “So proud. Alnwick is a super venue and I really enjoyed my first area festival.”
There was music in the air for Rebecca McNabb, winning both the Freestyle Music Elementary, 67.69% and Medium Bronze, 64.78% with Bunteeichen Nivaro. It’s only their sixth competition together for the 14.2 Hannoveraner gelding, mentions Rebecca on social media, “Only our sixth competition together, very pleased with this super pony!”
We’d also like to congratulate Georgina Teece and her ride Faerie Salakadu on her third in the Novice Bronze. They missed out on the Winter Area Festivals due to EHV lockdown, “Which was so gutting when we were so prepared.” Georgina is so proud to have even made it to their first Area Festival, “To actually get to the summer areas this time was an achievement in itself. It was our first area festival so I was super nervous but we had a great test.” We look forward to seeing your achievements next year.
