Festival Focus - Morris Equestrian 21

Morris Equestrian (15 – 16 May) was the fifth to last festival to happen before the Petplan Equine Winter Area Festival Championships in a few weeks.

The Scottish riders pulled out all the stops, in the first of the regional's festivals, to get one of the fourteen first place sashes, which secures them a place at Hartpury.

It was a double win for amateur rider, Samantha Dawn Turpitt in the Prix St George Bronze and Intermediate I Bronze, with two amazing scores of 64.80% and 67.50% on her winner of the Advanced Medium at Winter Championships in 2020, Bali Dancer. The ten-year-old, who “hasn’t been the easiest,” joined Samantha at the ripe age of four; they will be making their way down from Scotland, once again, to join us at Hartpury, which they are very excited about.  

Another pair who claimed a double win was Nicola Diane Heale with her fourteen-year-old gelding, Retanach Request in the Prix St George Silver and Intermediate I Silver. Scoring retrospectively an almost identical result of 67.37% and 67.96%. Stepping up for the first time to FEI Grand Prix early last year the couple have competed regularly since 2013.  

Steeping up to Elementary last year, Carole Wright and the apply named, black cob, Chocolate Magnum won their first Bronze with 67.65%. A complete shock to both of them. Known as Max, who can be spooky at times, which hasn’t helped with them not being able to get out and about due to the lockdowns, secured another win with 67.50% in the Novice Bronze. Carole puts pride into showcasing Max as he proves that cobs can make it to Hartpury.
