Festival Focus - Solihull Equestrian 21

The next qualifier at Solihull was one of four events happening on that weekend in May (14 – 18 May), which saw the latest group of qualified riders gain tickets to take their place at the Petplan Equine Winter Area Festival Championships in a few weeks. Including some marvellous scores, new combinations and personal bests!

Hayley Ford and her ex-racer, Crimson Gold beat their expectations and won the second section in the Novice Silver with 72.15%, stating on social media with pride on how much preparation and love goes into make sure they achieve their best. 

The winning combination in both the Prelim Silver and Novice Silver (section 1) were Rafaella Bailey and Kalosca, with 73.26% and 70.49%, retrospectively. The six-year-old mare is a new ride for Rafaella in 2020 and have been very active, placing in the top 5 all year. Based at Talland School of Equestrian, as a Stage 4 Instructor, Rafaella was thankful to her trainer and owner sharing a, “Massive thank you to Pammy Hutton for the opportunities with Maddie (Kalosca), and everything you do for me. Also, a big thank you to Pippa Hutton for helping with test practice and being the best behind the scenes support.” 

Sara Bates on her winning Para Winter Champion, Tango VII, won the Elementary Bronze with 72.15%. The bay mare, who is now 12, has won various Para Winter Championships and Internationals since 2018, after coming together as a pair 4 years ago.  

Known at home as Duster, Moreorless, the ride of Anna Tomlinson, blew her away with a score of 69.85% in the Medium Bronze, securing her a ticket to the Championships. Stating on social media, “Never in a million years did we believe we’d end up where we have done, he truly is one in a million and tries his absolute heart out.” Anna knows why she’s loves the sport, “It’s so important to look back as to why we do what we do and just have fun!”
